Dangers of Binge Drinking

One of the most dangerous drinking pattern is binge drinking. It creates damaging effect to the life of a person including his physical, emotional and psychological behaviors. The habit can also destroy anyone’s social life together with his intimate relationships and his interaction with family members and friends. While the negative effects may not be obvious at the early stage of the habit, it can escalate quickly, without warnings. It is best to give some consideration and attention on this matter before it controls one’s life.

Binge drinking can easily cause alcohol poisoning. Excessive alcohol intake in a short period of time can damage the internal organs especially the liver and the brain. The drinking pattern is associated to many symptoms of diseases which can lead to mortality. It is indeed dangerous and life threatening.

If the person continues to engage into this kind of habit, he can develop a full blown alcohol addiction. In reality, it is not necessary for a person to drink everyday to become addicted. Drinking excessively in a habitual pattern can also lead to alcoholism. If the constant binge drinking takes place, it will penetrate into the system, creating a strong dependency to the substance. My Advice: Always Think of the Negative Side While Quitting Alcohol

Thinking, not the Positive - but the Negative

Many articles I’ve read in the internet suggest a person to be a positive thinker whenever he is trying to quit drinking alcohol. For those writers, positive thinking helps an individual cope up with alcohol addiction, overcome alcohol withdrawal symptoms, deal with all the negative effects of that dependency to one’s life and lead that person to the road of recovery. But I will reveal to you a different approach; be a negative thinker. Think the negative side of the coin when you are attempting to go alcohol free. I know that many of you will raise their eyebrows. Many of you will have a hard time accepting this quit drinking alcohol approach. What are you saying, dude? Negative versus positive?

Let me explain myself. In the past, I drink whenever I encounter negative situations: personal issues, financial difficulties, domestic problems, stress at work, issues with my wife, etc. These negative situations make a huge impact on me and provide me reasons to turn my head into binge drinking and substance abuse. I believed that time that alcohol is my best friend and can help me forget and ease my burdens. And because of that frequent drinking, it affects my behavior, and point of views and life, in general. Many problems arose and got engaged into lots of troubles.

This is common for all alcoholics, trying to escape from the outside world and shutting themselves by drinking alcohol, carrying with them the belief that they can get away from all of their troubles just by simply using alcohol as an escape door. What they don’t realize is that they are just creating additional problems and allowing these problems to go into their lives. With this cycle, they are just adding insult to injuries, ending up hooked to alcohol addiction and having huge amount of unresolved problems.

But now that I have decided to quit alcohol, I get encouraging thoughts out of these pessimistic scenarios. I always think of these negative situations. I did this when I am in the initial stage of my program. Instead of going into counseling, I tried to be more creative in going alcohol free in order to overcome my urge to engage in drinking again.

I think of the times that I got into trouble, I remind myself of the many mornings that I can’t get up for work because of headaches and hangovers. I recall ending up in jail because of drunkenness. I remember the times on which I can’t remember a thing that happened last night because of blackout episodes. I think of the diseases associated with too much alcohol, the health issues. I consider the broken relationships, lost jobs, irresponsible decisions, the social concerns, and many more. I make myself reflect on these negative situations and create positive thoughts that I have time to repair my life. These negative situations provide me eagerness and determination to win over challenges and push me to become a positive thinker because of the effects of the negative side.

Negative situations motivated me not to drink again. Never again. If others quit alcohol by doing the positive approach, I will stick in thinking these dreadful events that happened to me. And I will make good things out of these.

Thinking these negative situations that I have been through makes me a stronger person. I always think that I can avoid these harmful events by simply not drinking alcohol. I should not turn my head to alcohol whenever there are real life problems because I am only adding burdens to those existing problems. Thinking the negative side or the darkest hours will help you realized that there is a huge need to quit alcohol. These motivational approaches can be effective considering the fact that most alcoholics may not bring back their positive behaviors immediately. So we will try to get positive atmosphere from the negative side. The main goal of this approach is to pinpoint all the harmful situations and incidents that occurred during the time you are abusing alcohol and turn it into motivations that will promote your determination and willpower.

If you really want to quit drinking alcohol, you will force yourself to accomplish this for the betterment of you and for the sake of the people you love. Every time you feel drinking or having trouble overcoming the symptoms, think of the negative side. It will not only help you to quit alcohol but will also makes you realize you still have time to improve your life.

People who are quitting alcohol can experience alcohol cravings for the addictive substance. It is common for alcoholics who are trying to get rid of their addiction to feel the urge of drinking again. Due to the addictive substances (physical aspects) and the habitual characteristic of drinking (psychological aspects) a person will automatically “think” of alcohol in one way nor another. And relapse will surely be on its way. Well, this is normal to all addictions, right? But if you don’t try to learn how to deal with cravings when quitting alcohol, you may find yourself back to the terrible habit.

Here are some techniques on how I dealt with my alcohol cravings when I quit alcohol. You may want to consider these activities to help you forget drinking and live a normal life.

Walking a mile or two – When I feel the urge, I immediately leave the house and walk. Walking is a great way to deal with alcohol cravings. If you are trying to quit drinking, you can walk down the road which will help you forget the “thoughts”. The idea is to make your thoughts redirected to other things. By walking a mile or two, you will allow yourself to see other things on the way, making you forget your habit in the process. Walking can also be a physical fitness activity that will help you stay fit and develop your tolerance with alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Jogging is also an option for those people who need or want some intense workout activity.

Listening to Music – It is a good idea to change the mood when you feel the desire to drink again. Listening to your favorite music can transform the atmosphere into a positive one. Your mood plays a big role in your behavior. Alcohol cravings can make you feel depressed and irritable, triggering your mind to find comfort. And the thought that alcohol is a comforting thing, it can trigger you to get back into the habit. By listening to your preferred type of music, you can encourage your mood to think of other things. Just settle down on a comfortable place and start feeding your hungry mind.

There are other things that you can do in order to deal with the desire to drink. Giving Up Alcohol

Random Thoughts About the Addiction

An individual who believes he has drinking problem should learn when enough is enough. I know that it is very difficult giving up a habit that has been lying down the system for a very long time. But a person must quit alcohol before he wakes up one morning and finds out it is too late to get out of the situation. Many alcoholics (people I know) who have not managed to get through can actually “escape” from this terrible condition if only they try to quit earlier.

If you are abusing alcohol for years, now is the time to quit drinking. Binge drinking or defined as “the act of drinking just to get drunk” by doctors could lead to negative habit and will eventually bring you to alcohol addiction. It will not only damage your whole life but will destroy your relationships to the people around you.

Despite the fact that the issue about alcohol addiction, its nature and its solutions are all still in many debates in most part of the world, we need to completely understand our own condition in order to achieve recovery. We all know now that alcohol addiction involves health issues, personal problems and social aspects. Each alcoholic is different from another so it is recommended to introduce a personalized treatment program that can cater all the personal issue involved. In the definition, alcoholism involves uncontrollable drinking thus; solutions should be focused on that problem.

I know a lot of people who made family members and friends cover up for their drinking problems. Alcohol dependents frequently engaged their loved ones to make excuses for them and push them to pretend that they do not have issues in life. After extended and frequent reasoning, those family members or loved ones can have difficulty in accepting the truth that they have been an element of the problem, making the situation more complicated. But, this can be prevented by means of intervention. Family members or friends should not tolerate this habit. Making excuses for the sake of the person involve will only make things worse.

Once the family members realize they need to help the alcoholic not by means of these excuses, they can have time to intervene. A great time to discuss the situation to an alcoholic may come shortly after an alcohol related problem has occurred. Talk with delicate words and avoid confrontations.

Alcohol Addiction Facts

In a recent research conducted by Anti-Alcoholism Society in the Philippines on the effects of the substance on the brain, they found out that the cells and nerves show signs of injuries and will take some time to repair even until recovery period. Individuals who abuse alcohol may experience brain damage and intoxication.

What is Alcoholism for Me?

Alcohol addiction is a disease associated to a person who is greatly and chronically abusing alcohol despite of the negative effects of alcohol to his life. In most cases, people who have chronic and severe case of alcohol addiction have a difficult time quitting alcohol due to lack of willpower and motivation. The meaning of alcohol addiction or alcohol dependency and alcoholism is simply “uncontrollable drinking behavior”. The use of alcohol characterized by obsession and abuse that eventually affects his behavior and his health. It produces reactions such as alcohol withdrawal symptoms when the alcoholic suddenly stopped drinking or significantly reduced his consumption. However, an alcoholic knows that the definition is far more complicated than in real life. Alcohol addiction has a damaging effect to a person’s life and his social environment. Alcohol dependency will eventually lead to uncontrollable behavior. In fact it is associated to uncontrollable attitudes.

Many experts define alcoholism as a dependency to alcohol despite the fact that he is aware of the negative effects of the substance in his life, in general. People who have this condition will continue to drink, abuse alcohol and pretend that he has no problem at all. For example, in my case, I will drink alcohol every night even though I know that I will be having hard time waking up in the morning to go to work. I would still take that booze and drink until I blackout.

Alcoholism affects a person’s point of view. Alcohol abuse is one of the main causes of road accidents and domestic violence. In fact, there are lots of people who have engaged into troubles and illegal activities when they are under the influence of alcohol.

Fortunately, there are many things that we can do in order to tackle drinking problems. If you notice someone you know has drinking problems or has been engaging to several incidents that involves his drinking patterns, you should help them as soon as possible. Maybe the first step is to discuss the problem with the person involve. Talk to them and let them know that you are concern with their behavior whenever they are drunk. Encourage them to quit drinking alcohol and divert their habits to something more productive and creative. Allow them to feel that there are people who are willing to help them and assist them into the road of recovery. May be these people only need a starting point. And a good starting point of recovery is to have people on their side that they can trust.

I am a victim of life changing event.

What Are the Effects of Alcohol Addiction

Alcoholism or the disease associated with the dependency to alcohol (alcohol addiction) is not a 24-hour event. It does not happen in an instant. The poisonous chemical of alcohol on the internal organ is very severe. Large amounts of fat are accrued into the system which is a result of heavy drinking of alcohol. The person may develop diseases of internal organ such as Hepatitis A and B, which is defined as the condition of an inflamed liver.

Alcohol addiction is a personal matter. The person involved is the one who can truly help himself. He is the person in-charge and he must do what it takes to guide his own self into the road of recovery from alcohol addiction. A lot of people do not make it to success when it comes to quitting alcohol because they do not help themselves. They tend to rely on other people to assist them to quit drinking. This is why a lot of people stop drinking for a while and get back to the habit, making them prone to more complicated situations and worst condition.

If only I knew about this, I would probably get out of the habit and try abstinence.

This is the reason why problem drinker should seek professional help as soon as possible. It will prevent any further damages to his health and life, in general. It is easier to repair a life with only few damages than when it is in total wrecked. We must prevent additional injuries and repair the existing ones. We should quit alcohol now before it is too late to quit.

Entering in an alcohol rehabilitation center is a preventive measure. There are many negative effects of alcohol addiction in a person’s life and avoiding these effects can be obtained by means of seeking expert and medical advice. You must consider quitting alcohol before it is too late for you.

Family members and friends can also provide this intervention for the alcoholic. A friend or loved one can take the person or the alcoholic in a rehab center to get help. It will allow the person to realize he needs outside help.

Once the person is admitted in an alcohol addiction rehabilitation facility, he will have to go through a series of treatments such as alcohol detoxification program. These withdrawal symptoms can be quite painful and can lead to other health issues if not properly treated. But if the person gets all the necessary treatments and approach, he will surely get out of this kind of condition.

After the detoxification process, the recovery and medical treatment will be introduced. In this stage, the alcoholic is given a series of rehabilitation in order for the alcoholic to recovery, physically, mentally and emotionally. Alcohol rehab program can include counseling that will tackle the inner emotions and the roots of the problems. Every alcoholic may have different personal issues in life and by means of counseling, he can tell his feelings in the outside world. A physical program or activities should also be a component as it is important for the person to be physically fit during quitting alcohol and when recovering from a strenuous situation. He needs to develop his physical traits to make sure he can overcome alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The main goal of an alcohol treatment program is to encourage the alcoholic live life without alcohol. If the person learns how to cope up with depressions and stress in everyday living, he will not need to turn his head into drinking again. He may be able to be firm and determine not to embrace the temptations of all alcoholic beverages.

An effective alcohol treatment program will provide the person all the important and required “weapons” in rejecting alcohol and can teach him how to quit drinking alcohol on his own.
